& Revitalizing the Community
CAMDEN- Mona Wilson had already owned her own business, an insurance and tag service in Pennsylvania. So when she launched a cupcake business after winning a competition judged by famed Philadelphia chef Jose Garces, she said, "I didn't think there was much I didn't know."
The Camden native soon realized she knew a lot less than she thought, and turned to the Latin American Economic Development Association (LAEDA)’s Entrepreneurial Development Training Program to learn about branding, raising capital, handling staff and managing cash flow.
Kadie-Ann Treasure is the owner and operator of Treasure’s Hair & Spa, and a graduate of LAEDA’s Entrepreneurial Development Training Program. We had a chance to sit down with Kadie-Ann, who recently opened her salon, to ask about her experience with entrepreneurship and LAEDA’s training program.
On June 14, 2016, EDTP students had their session on Insurance. Ben Calaf, owner of Alston-Calaf & Associates, shared his knowledge and expertise on the different types of insurance and learn to pick the ones that are suited for specific businesses.
Women entrepreneurs came together at LAEDA Headquarters to learn how to finance their own businesses and the additional challenges that women face when looking for capital. The seminar served as an overview of the 5 C’s of credit, accessing capital, and different sources of funding. Bertha Sarmina, Program Manager of LAEDA WBC, shared her expertise on women in business, and what women can do to finance their business.
