Woodbury, NJ—LAEDA attended the City of Woodbury’s First Annual Woodbury Hispanic Heritage Festival on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at LOT 323 in Woodbury. The festival included local Hispanic-owned businesses, music and a traditional Mexican dance group. Community organizations such as the Woodbury Public Library, the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, the Hispanic Family Center and LAEDA provided various community resources and information to attendees.
The festival was held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which began on September 15 and ended on October 15. Hispanic Heritage Month started out as Hispanic Heritage Week, and was later expanded into a month-long celebration. The month, starting in mid-September, kicks off on September 15 to observe the Independence Day of several Latin American counties: El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates Independence Day on September 16, and Chile celebrates on September 18.
