On January 13th, 2021 LAEDA welcomed its first virtual Women’s Business Academy Training Program through the Women’s Business Center. LAEDA has been providing in-person training for over 30 years and launched its first virtual Entrepreneurial Development Training Program back in Spring of 2020. This first Women’s Business Academy is an important milestone and demonstrates LAEDA’s commitment to serving its community of Entrepreneurs.
The 2021 Women’s Business Academy showcases a variety of small businesses, such as an event planner, a vision board company, hairstylists, and construction companies, to name a few. In the last couple of weeks, students have learned from experts in business law, taxes, small business financing, marketing, and of course, business planning.
The Orientation was led by Mr. Raymond Lamboy, CEO, and Ms. Jamila Powell, Program Manager of the Women’s Business Center. Together Mr. Lamboy and Ms. Powell welcomed the students and explained the program outline, expectation, and goals. The students were then given the opportunity to introduce themselves and their businesses.
Ms. Jamila Powell, Program Manager of Women’s Business Center stated “This is a great time for the WBC to host its 5th WBA. It is such a crucial moment for women today since they are facing so much adversity personally and professionally due to the pandemic. Many are dealing with that adversity head on and finding the silver lining by starting or growing their business.”
