(1) Kededra Holmes, owner of Lovely Hen LLC:

(1) What are some secrets to your success which you don’t mind sharing?

My first secret to success would be believing in yourself. Next I’d say believing in your dreams. Sacrificing isn’t easy, but very necessary when starting a new business whether it be financial or working hard long hours. At times you may find yourself standing alone in an idea, or on a project that others may not fully understand or visualize the same as you. Maintain your vision, plan accordingly, be kind and always be willing to listen and learn something new. If you plan ahead and do the work the possibilities are endless!
(2) What are some of the challenges that you faced, and what strategies or techniques did you use to overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges that I have faced is being a first generation farmer with no prior experience and no Real time connections in the poultry industry. I have to be proactive and constantly learning while working advocating for Lovelyhen, which is a Small business run by a Woman Minority in a predominantly male based Field. It can be overwhelming and intimidating at times.
(3) What motivated you to become an entrepreneur?

Being an Entrepreneur gives me creative flexibility which is the freedom to make my business exactly what I want it to be. I love to serve, interact and provide quality service while delivering a great product. Becoming an entrepreneur has given me a feeling of accomplishment not just financially, but it is also very rewarding to see your business actually become a place where people want or need to have available to them and their family.

(4) What do you hope to achieve next?

I hope to achieve a level of success where I can be a mentor for young women and also be a true example of pioneering as well as believing in yourself and dreaming big!

(2) April Ward, Co-owner at Fruition Life Media and Co-owner at Creative Content OnDemand:

(1) What are some secrets to your success which you don’t mind sharing?

One thing that attributes to my success is that I acknowledge God to lead the way for every decision I make. When deciding whether it be for business or personal, I set aside time to write down the plan and pray over it.

(2) What are some of the challenges that you faced, and what strategies or techniques did you use to overcome them?

Many people underestimate the value of professionalism we have to offer as a media marketing production company. When potential clients approach us, they don’t have a set budget or don’t even know where to start. We provide a FREE 15-minute consultation appointment to guide them towards their media needs.

(3) What motivated you to become an entrepreneur?

Entrepreneurship was not very common in my family; therefore, after college, I worked for others both in the corporate and non-profit industries. It took many years to feel confident to become a full-time entrepreneur. It’s been one of the best decisions because I have the privilege of building a legacy for my family and working in an area where I can work alongside my husband, James and be creative, helping others grow their businesses/organizations.

(4) What do you hope to achieve next?

Currently, my husband, James and I operate Creative Content OnDemand and Fruition Life Media from our home. Although we do have the ability to set up at remote locations, we would love to our own facility.

We also accept vouchers from the NJ childcare subsidy program.

(1) What are some secrets to your success which you don’t mind sharing?

Some of my secrets to my success are staying focused and being organized. It is important to stay focused so we can concentrate on reaching our goals in the direction we want to take them and being organized allows us to keep better track of our time and what we have to accomplish.

(2) What motivated you to become an entrepreneur?

People telling me that I could not do it motivated me to become an entrepreneur and I wanted to prove them wrong along with also proving to myself that I can do it. Moreover, I had a lot of family that were entrepreneurs. However, I was inspired to do this particular business, by necessity. Being there for my children was a very important decision of mine. The rising costs of childcare coupled with my love for my children and it really moved me in this direction.

(3) What do you hope to achieve next?

Next I hope to achieve the following: (1) finish with my Child Development Associate (CDA) class and (2) open a Center in the year of 2023 for my business.
