A Moment with our EDTP Graduate- Meet Rashaun Scudder

Rashaun Scudder is the owner and operator of On the Marc Catering and a graduate of LAEDA’s Entrepreneurial Development Training Program. We had a chance to sit down with him to ask about his experience with entrepreneurship and LAEDA's training program.

(1) LAEDA: Entrepreneurship is a very challenging path to take with many different possible directions. What made you decide to become an entrepreneur?

I decided to become an entrepreneur to not only build a business and become successful but to also be an influence on the community and individuals.

(2) LAEDA: Why did you choose your industry?

I chose the culinary field because I was always interested in the flavor profile of food and how to put together a meal that satisfied your palate like no other tasted before.

(3) LAEDA: Tell me about your experience while attending EDTP. What have the major takeaways been from the program? Have you had any “Ah-ha!” moments? How did the program help you?

My experience at LAEDA EDTP was great, there was so much information that was taught to us by all of the instructors who came in. I think my “Ah-ha” moment was when I started talking about 401k and Roth IRA's in a general conversation.

(4) LAEDA: Tell me about your journey on the road to business start-up. What have been some of the challenges, successes, failures, etc.?

While I had my business started when I came to LAEDA, there was so much I still needed to learn such as: how to gain capital, business credit, and etc. I think my biggest challenge so far has been money management, but now with the information that I have, I was able to turn it around and gain profit instead of a loss.

(5) LAEDA: Could you tell me a little about where your business is today?

My business today is a thriving catering and personal chef company that has catered for celebrities, local government, events and the list goes on. We have been featured on a Fox29 news segment as well as radio shows.

(6) LAEDA: Do you have any advice for future (or existing) entrepreneurs?

My advice to future entrepreneurs is to always keep pushing, keep God first, and always be willing to learn and pour back what you have learned into others. When you see people you have poured into become successful and are now doing the same thing you taught them, it’s a great feeling.
